Seriously, dinner doesn’t get any easier than this. This is what I call a “Chop, Dump and Run” kind of dinner. (And if you added carrots, it would be a one dish slow cooker dinner…my absolute favorite kind.)
This soup is sweet from the honey, with a touch of smoke, and a slight bite from the chili powder and cracked pepper.
You’re sure to love the soup, the flavor, the ease in preparing and the ease in cleaning up.
Also, if I ever were to write a feeding teenage boys on a budget cookbook…this recipe would go into the Beans Chapter. In fact, that book might only have 1 chapter…Rice and Beans recipes. That’s really how I plan to get through the teenage years with these boys of mine…lots of rice and beans, mixed in with some meat and ‘tater meals, along with a ton of homemade oatmeal. *sigh*
If, in a few years, I were to write that book, would you buy it?!

Yes, I would buy that book! My son is seven and is already eating me out of house and home. I’m not sure what I’ll do when he’s a teenager.

Where do you find the beans? We checked Fred Meyer/QFC (Kroger) and Safeway to no avail.

Hmmm…not sure. They are a small company, so I’d email them…they don’t have a store locator, but emailing might help!

I love a hearty soup that includes using ham bones. The white beans in this recipe look like they really make the dish and make it more interesting and more enjoyable to eat. What a great family recipe idea. I am going to make this very soon.

Just a comment about your print links. They leave out some of the great pictures you post w/ the recipes, so I prefer to select the recipe from your webpage w/ my mouse & copy & paste it into Word. I re-size photos & shift spacing as necessary for a nice, neat recipe.

I’m in the Midwest, this package of beans isn’t available to me. What is the substitute? It looks like Pinto and Northern beans. Is that correct?

Do you use the seasoning packet that comes with the beans. I have a ham bone I need to do something with in my freezer. Thanks David Johnson

The recipe seems like it is missing liquid – shouldn’t there be some water or chicken broth added also? I can’t imagine the beans can cook in just the juices from one can of diced tomatoes. Thanks!

The first line of directions tells you to add 7 1/2 cups of water. 🙂
