This is a great way to use blackberries you find on sale this upcoming berry season. We scored a whole case of blackberries for $2 last week… The catch? They only have a few days of freshness, so I had to get creative and have a little with them before I put them into the freezer. {How to Freeze Blackberries}
And by fun…I mean mix up what you might think of as an odd combination…but let me assure you that it’s delicious!!!
Now, before you go all “Erin, what in the world?” on me…hear me out…
Are blackberries sweet?
No, actually they are rather tart.
What happens to blackberries when you add them to smoothies?
They need some extras to make the smoothie creamier and ‘softer,’ if you will.
So…I added a little pound cake into the smoothie with the blackberries and yogurt. And in the end, a great balance of sweet and tart and creamy blackberry goodness.
This is more of dessert smoothie to me…a smoothie that I’d make in the afternoon for a snack or for an evening treat. But, if you’re feeling extra crazy…you could have this for breakfast…because “cake for breakfast”…why not?!?!?
Now, aren’t you glad you heard me out on this one. Now it’s your turn to enjoy…

Oh, adding in a chunk of cream cheese might be a great way to up the calcium, and the smoothness factor. Either way, this looks yummy!
