We love smoothies and it’s a great way to eat fruit that you might not normally just pick up and eat. Like pomegranates! Don’t be scared of them! I show you how to cut and use pomegranates here.
Antioxidant Pomegranate Smoothie
So fresh! Great way to start the day!
Servings - 4 servings
Ingredients
- 1 large pomegranate, deseeded
- 1 medium banana
- 6-8 pieces fresh or frozen mango
- 3-4 pieces fresh or frozen strawberries
- 1 cup rice milk
Instructions
- Remove seeds from pomegranate by opening and scooping out the seeds.
- Blend all ingredients until smooth. Add more rice milk to desired consistency.
Here are some photos of my smoothie making effort this morning! Anyone know how to get rid of the seeds in the smoothie??? I thought they would get blended, but they didn’t. My smoothie was too thick to strain. Any ideas would be helpful!?
Note: Super juicy and messy…don’t wear your favorite white blouse while doing this! It will turn pink!

As far as pomegranates, I have tried a fruit juice with it before, although I forget what kind it was. I have always seen the POM drinks and wanted to try them, as we are eat very healthy in our house and those would be a great addition to breakfasts! But alas, I haven’t gotten around to it yet…one day!

I saw a show saying that pomegranate seeds are heart healthy. I have two teenage daughters and want them to learn to eat healthy. Last week we bought our first pomegranate. I wasn’t sure how to pick one, but went for one that was darker in color. We all tried the seeds and thought they were good, but Megan, 17 then sat and ate the entire bowl of seeds. We would love to try something else made with pomegranate!

I live in Florida, and my favorite thing to do with pomegranates is to mix the seeds with peeled and sectioned oranges. Sometimes for company I will add a bit of Grand Marnier and some pecans.
It’s very labor-intensive, so I usually do several oranges at a time. I’m always amazed at how much people like fresh fruit like this. Maybe it’s because it takes so much time to prepare.
crazydaisy says
Yes, I have had the typical pomegranate as an afternoon snack (MESSY), juice, and even the seeds as a snack, and I love POM juice, but I once cooked that juice as a glaze for my peppered chicken and it was wonderful! Moist and tender, plus think of all those extra antioxidants in my bird!!!

I love Pomegranates and so do my kids. We eat then plain, sucking the juice off the little seeds. I don’t remember ever letting one go bad unless it was burried deep under fruit in the fridge drawer. They are too exp to let spoin in my house, LOL! We also love POM but can’t afford the label. In Europe, where I am originally from, pomegranate concentrate is considered a great took for HBP (HIgh blood pressure). It is pricey there as well. Thank you for offering the giveaway! I hope we win. With 4 kids we will put all the coupons to use! Natalie

I have no idea how to strain those pesky seeds out. That is the only thing I don’t like about pomegranates. I think you can eat the seeds but to me they are a nuisance like raspberry or blackberry seeds.
I just put a whole handful of pom. seeds in my mouth, suck all the juice out and spit out the seeds in bulk….which my husband thinks is just delightful to watch!! HAHA! Your recipe sounds yummy!!

Guess I’m really blessed! I have a friend who doesn’t bother with her pomegranates, so I get to pick them all. (Quartering them and then rubbing the seeds off submerged in a bowl of water solves the stained clothes problem. The lighter-weight pith will float, so is easy to separate. Then you can strain off the water for a refreshing, lightly flavored drink or to add to your smoothie). I just throw the seeds in a freezer bag and they’re ready to use. I mainly make them in smoothies, though I recently went to a cooking class where they were used in a spinach salad along with cholla buds (we live in the Southwest.) Did I ever feel healthy! (it was delicious too)
I finally bought a VitaMix mixer which totally grinds the seeds, so can’t help you with that issue.
My son just referred me to your site. It’s great! I’ve shopped and cooked much as you describe for many years. I stayed home until my children were in Jr. High, and I always thought of my savings by shopping the ads, using coupons and planning my meals ahead as my tax-free income.
I’m off travelling now, but will post some recipes when I get back home. Keep up the great site!
