Looking for another great way to use up those UBER CHEAP sweet potatoes?!? This is a great week to buy sweet potatoes, as many stores have them priced as low as $.25/lb!!!
You can also cook, mash and freeze them for use in future meals!
If you’ve had your share of sweet potato pie or casserole, then give these a try with the extras! Would be delicious with a BBQ Turkey Sandwich!

Sweet Potato Oven Fries
Looking for another great way to use up those UBER CHEAP sweet potatoes?!? This is a great way to use cook them!
Servings - 4 servings
Ingredients
- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into strips
- 2 Tbsp oil
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Salt and pepper a few dashes of each
Instructions
- Peel sweet potatoes.
- Cut in half.
- Cut into strips. The thinner the strips, the faster they will bake.
- Rinse all the strips and pat dry.
- Place all the sweet potato strips into a bowl and add the oil, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and pepper. Toss well.
- Lay the strips in a single layer on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake at 400 F for 25-35 minutes, turning once after about 15 minutes. Baking time will vary depending on thickness of the strips and how crispy you want them!

I love to add a little chili powder to mine too.

@Cara,
Another great spice to add in 🙂

We do our fries a bit differently. We leave the peel on (you don’t even notice it when it is cooked) and toss in a little bit of olive oil and sea salt. A different flavor, but still some great fries.

I’ve made these with paprika added as well as the cinnamon, an idea I got from Sarah’s Cucina Bella blog. Came out fantastic!
Erin, The $5 Dinner Mom says
@Ellen,
What a great idea…I’ll try that next time 🙂

I have tried to do this 3 or 4 times (tried it last Sunday night) and they always come out soggy. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Yours look so good.
Erin, The $5 Dinner Mom says
@B. Keefer,
Do you rinse them and pat them dry?!? That is the key!
Alicia says
Mine were soggy too. I didn’t rinse them and pat them dry since my husband peeled and sliced them for me and he washed them first. They were dry when I tossed them with the oil and seasonings though. If I try them again, I’ll see if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I wish I liked sweet potatoes – they look so good!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your new addition! 😀
B. Keefer says
Ah, a rinse and pat dry! Every recipe I read said absolutely not to do that. LOL I think I will try it again and this time do it your way.
Thanks!

Yum! In Houston, all the stores have sweet potatoes on sale for 19 cents a pound, so I stocked up. Nice to have another recipe to try out! Thanks!

I love sweet potato fries and they are wonderful dipped in BBQ sauce. Maybe it’s a southern thing but they are so good that way. Our family took a little vacation to Gatlinburg, TN last year and a restaurant there serves them with BBQ sauce. You have to try it!
Erin, The $5 Dinner Mom says
@Candice,
Love the BBQ sauce idea 🙂
Juile Anne says
You luckies, getting these potatoes for $.19/lb the cheapest I found was $.89/lb at WinCo last week. I do however want to try these they sound yummy!!!
jessica jackson says
@Juile Anne, .25 at my walmart tonight
sito says
Oh, yum! I’ve made sweet potato fries, but only ever salted them. The brown sugar and cinnamon would give a new twist on this treat.
Brooke says
Made these tonight and loved them! Thanks for the recipe.
Heather Dormer says
A different twist on sweet potatoes is to fire up your grill, slice the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise, smear the cut sides with butter, sprinkle garlic salt & black pepper on them, press the cut sides back together, wrap in foil, grill till done. A change up from the usual sugary recipes.
